Science

The science curriculum is formatted to meet National Science Standards. Many hands-on laboratory and inquiry based lessons weave themselves throughout the chapters. Students consistently make scientific observations as well as formulate hypothesis, gather information and draw conclusions in a laboratory setting. Instruction is tailored to meet the needs of individual students with various learning styles and ability levels. Technology also enhances student learning experiences through the use of CD-ROM, Internet connections, and other assorted multimedia resources.

Physical Science (Grade 9)
This science course will cover the scientific method and its applications. The major concepts of physics and chemistry are studied, including the nature of matter, chemical reactions, motion and force, electricity, magnetism and heat. These concepts unify themselves through the four major themes of Energy, Systems and Interactions, Scale and Structure, and Stability and Change. 1 credit

Biology (Prerequisite: Successful completion of Physical Science)
This course offers a discussion and laboratory introduction to the science of living organisms. Some of the topics students actively study are the diversity of life forms which include the study of the cell, human genetics, plants, animals and matter. This system approach allows for the study revealing the relationship and fundamental unity between form and function. The fallacies of evolution will be presented in conjunction with the truth of Creation. 1 credit

Chemistry (Prerequisite: Successful completion of Biology)
This course encompasses concepts including energy and matter, atomic theory and structure, chemical reactions and mathematical relationships, gases, acid based theory, and nuclear and organic chemistry. Laboratory investigations, demonstrations and multimedia will be used to develop these concepts. An integrated approach also links chemistry to literature, art, history, as well as the science of physics, biology, and earth science. 1 credit

Physics (Prerequisite: Successful completion of Chemistry)
This course is designed to introduce physics to students with a wide range of backgrounds and abilities. This shows how physics is related to their lives and the world around them. It offers a unique balance of conceptual development and quantitative applications, covering mechanics, properties of matter, waves, electricity and magnetism, and modern physics. New concepts are introduced with everyday examples, and special features relate topics studied to the real world. It has a balance of comprehensive coverage and problem solving experiences. 1 credit

Anatomy / Physiology (Prerequisite: None- Independent Study)
This course deals with the basic structure and function of the human body. Using laboratory exercises and visual aids, the student will examine the normal structure and function of each system. Materials will be presented that stimulate interest and stress the importance of being an educated health consumer. 1 credit
