Spanish

Juntos makes learning Spanish more meaningful by weaving language and culture together. The geographical location for each unit is the basis for its cultural themes, relevant vocabulary, grammatical functions, and all reading activities. This series is student-centered by using youth-oriented themes and technology proving activities for all types of learners.

Spanish I
Students will be introduced to Spanish in the five skills; speaking, listening, comprehension, reading and writing so as to be able to understand elementary Spanish. Students will also be exposed to Spanish culture, making them more sensitive to cultural differences and similarities. 1 credit

Spanish II (Prerequisite: Successful completion of Spanish I)
The second year of Spanish focuses on developing oral skills in conjunction with an expansion of grammar and vocabulary. Students will be expected to constantly review the vocabulary and grammar covered during the first year to be able to gain confidence in applying it orally and in writing. Various aspects of the Hispanic culture will be covered throughout the year. 1 credit

Spanish III (Prerequisite: Successful completion of Spanish II)
The third year of Spanish focuses on completing all of the most essential points of grammar and vocabulary covered during the first two years. This is essential to be able to properly apply the new grammar and vocabulary in a higher level of oral and written expression. Cultural awareness becomes more specific, requiring students to get involved in researching various cultural aspects to be presented in class. 1 credit

Spanish IV (Prerequisite: Successful completion of Spanish III- Special Circumstances)
Reading and discussion in Spanish IV will include Hispanic writers, especially contemporary authors. Through these readings, students will further expand their knowledge of oral and written self-expression. A serious review of grammar will accompany these readings as a means of fine tuning all aspects of Spanish, and better prepare students who will take the College Board Achievements Tests in Spanish. This course will be mostly conducted in Spanish. Cultural awareness is further expanded. 1 credit
